The lecturers of the painting department have chosen to mark the beginning of this study year by an exhibition at the hall of the art Academy; the exhibition Catapult is a sort of creative answer to the painting students.
The department has a tradition to organize teacher exhibitions as at the Academy as elsewhere in Latvia - there have been exhibitions in Riga, Liepāja, Cēsis etc.
The main task of the exhibition is to break out form the ordinary, to fight between traditional and new one.
In this case catapult is used in wider sense - as indefinite instrument for breaking out from the neglected routine, as a shell of energy what the lecturer gains within his work with future artists, as a painters′ contribution to society receiving its′ appreciation and spur for future work. It reflects the problems important for the contemporary artists.
The aim of the exhibition is to see things surrounding us in more emotional way.
This exhibition is special with the current attitude towards creative process, towards study methods and status of the future artist within his colleagues.
At the Painting department there are such famous artists working like Aleksejs Naumovs, Ivars Heinrihsons, Kristaps Zariņš, Kaspars Zariņš, Vija Zariņa, Ieva Iltnere, Juris Jurjāns, Irēna Lūse, Pēteris Postažs, Imants Vecozols, Andris Eglītis, Andris Vītoliņš and Kristīne Rubene whose works are displayed here.
The exhibition is opened all the September.
